LED signs in Melbourne

Every LED sign we make for Melbourne is built and tested at our workshop in Welshpool, Perth, then installed by our own team. That is how we worked on the Newbay Hotel, where we designed and installed full colour LED message boards as part of the building’s facade upgrade. We make outdoor signs, LED screens and video walls for venues, shops and offices, and we send hire signs to Melbourne for events and roadworks.

The Newbay Hotel in Melbourne

When the Newbay Hotel upgraded its facade, new full colour LED message boards were part of the work. We designed them, built them at our Welshpool workshop, and our own team installed them on site. The photos show LED shopfront signs and a full colour screen on the New Bay building.

If you run a venue, you can use the two together: a full colour screen for pictures and video, and LED shopfront signs for the short messages people read on the way past, like tonight’s band or the kitchen hours. The Newbay Hotel story has more on the job.

LED signs for pubs, hotels and venues

A pub or hotel has a different message most nights: trivia, a band, the footy, a function room to book. An LED sign out the front lets you change it from your phone, so the sign never runs a week behind.

Pylon signs

Get your name out to the kerb. On a Melbourne main road, with trams, bikes and cars all moving, a pylon has to be read at a glance, so the letters need to be big and the message short.

Building signs

Fix to the facade, the fascia or above the door, where people walk past.

Double-sided signs

Catch drivers heading into the city and those heading out of it.

Indoor LED displays and video walls

Show events, sponsors and the bistro menu to people already inside.

Every one of these is a custom LED sign, drawn up for your building, in the size it needs. A single colour sign sticks to red text and numbers. Full colour digital LED signs add logos, photos and video, which suits a venue that wants to show its food, its stage or its beer garden. See LED signs for pubs and clubs and restaurant signage.

Screens and video walls

LED screens, panels and video walls in Melbourne

A TV is a single LCD panel made for indoors. An LED screen is built from panels of small LED lights, so it can be made to the size of your wall, and outdoors it is bright enough for direct sun. That is how a video wall fills a foyer, or a screen covers the front of a building.

Where they work:

  • Foyers and offices. We built two full colour LED video walls for a Tasmanian Government office.
  • Shopfronts and shopping centres. Slim indoor poster screens that can join into one big screen.
  • Outdoor screens and digital billboards. Built for the street, with photos and video that stay clear in full sun. See LED billboards.
  • Bistros and cafes. Digital menu boards that switch from lunch to dinner on a schedule.

For indoor and outdoor digital signage, you schedule content by time of day and run it from a phone, a laptop or online. Setting up the software is part of our install, along with a walk-through for your staff. Our digital signage page has more.

Four seasons in a day

Melbourne can go from sunshine to sideways rain and back before lunch, and an outdoor sign has to cope with all of it. Our outdoor signs are made for sun, wind and rain. The cabinets in our FA2 outdoor range carry an IP68 rating against dust and heavy rain, so a sudden downpour stays outside. Summer heat is covered too, because the FA2 needs no air conditioning up to 55 degrees. When the sun breaks through, up to 10,000 nits keeps the message easy to read.

One customer summed it up in a Google review:

“6 years and still going strong! Rain hail and shine. Good product. Thanks” (Jim McLarty)

Sign hire

Sign hire for Melbourne events and roadworks

LED sign hire in Melbourne suits a festival weekend, a venue launch, a season of roadworks or a trial run before you buy. Hire signs leave our Perth workshop for Melbourne, or anywhere else in Australia, and the message on each one is changed from your phone.

  • Full colour trailer signs bring photos, logos and video to an opening night or a festival gate. See full colour LED trailer hire.
  • Solar trailer signs run with no mains power and double as variable message signs. For VMS hire in Melbourne, they carry speed, detour and warning messages on roadworks. See VMS board hire.
  • Double-sided signs show your message to traffic in both directions.
  • Portable signs can be carried into a foyer or set up at an event entry.

Planning permits in Victoria

Most electronic and illuminated signs in Melbourne and the rest of Victoria need a planning permit under your council’s planning scheme. An LED sign on a pylon or a facade usually falls into that group. An application generally includes drawings of the sign and a plan showing where it goes. Helping with the permit is part of the job, at no extra cost, just like our work in WA.

How we run a Melbourne job from Perth

It starts with photos. Send a few pictures of the building through our contact page, with rough sizes and a note on what the sign has to show. We turn those into a drawing and a free quote. Once you are happy, we build the sign in Welshpool and test it in the workshop before it heads east. Our own team then travels to your site in Melbourne or elsewhere in Victoria, installs it, and shows your staff how to change the content before we leave.

If you would rather pay over time, finance through Ledge Finance is available for any of our signs.

Electronic scoreboards for Melbourne footy, cricket and netball

Clubs can get an LED scoreboard from us too, run from a phone with the iCatcher Scoreboard app or from a tablet with Olympyx. Installation in Melbourne is done by our own team. Our Melbourne scoreboards page explains the software and the automatic siren.
