A digital sign in a gym or fitness centre shows today’s classes and places left, opening hours, how-to videos for the machines, challenge leaderboards and member shout-outs, and ads from local partners who buy screen time.
Gyms and fitness centres have plenty to tell their members, and members spend a lot of time looking up from a treadmill or waiting at reception. A digital sign puts that time to good use. Many gyms already have screens but use them for only one thing. Here are the ways fitness centres use digital signs every day.
Class timetables
Show today’s classes, who is taking them and how many places are left. Update the screen the moment a class changes or fills up.
Opening hours
Holiday hours and closures are easy to miss on a printed notice. A bright screen at the entrance makes sure everyone knows before they plan their week.
How-to videos
A short video showing how to use a machine or do an exercise properly is easier to follow than a printed chart, and helps members train safely.
Challenges and shout-outs
Run a monthly challenge and show the leaderboard. Celebrate members who reach a goal, finish a program or win a competition.
Nutrition tips and motivation
Exercise and food go together. Healthy eating tips, a recipe of the week or a quote to get people through the last set all work, and you can match them to the time of day: energy in the morning, recovery in the evening.
Your social media
Show your latest posts and your handles to grow your following, and encourage members to tag the gym.
Can local businesses help pay for the screens?
Screens that members watch every day are worth something to local businesses, such as a physio, a sports store or a healthy cafe. Selling screen time to a partner can help pay for the sign. The same screens are a good place to tell members about personal training, memberships for friends and family, or what is on in your cafe.
Where do screens work best in a gym?
The best spots are where members stop, or repeat the same movement for a while: in front of the treadmills and bikes, at reception, in the cafe and by the entrance.
Out the front, an outdoor LED sign helps new members find you and see what is on. For more on outdoor signs, read improve your street presence with a digital sign.
How often should the content change?
A screen that shows the same thing for months becomes part of the wall. Change something every week, even if it is only the member shout-out or the recipe, and keep the text big enough to read from the far end of the gym floor. Short videos that make sense without sound work best, because many members will have headphones in. For a large gym or sports centre, a full colour LED screen can be made to any size, up to a full video wall.
Easy to update
Staff change the content from a computer, tablet or phone, from the office or anywhere else, either straight away or on a schedule.
